The hotline is a key part of our mass defense work. Here, calls come in, often in real-time, as arrests are taking place. Hotline calls contain critical information for tracking arrestees. Hotline volunteers are just as much on the front lines as the legal observers at the protests and the lawyers standing by to go to court. People may be calling to report arrests, find out the status of folks who have been arrested, report on police abuse, or get general information. Central to our hotline is maintaining a strong internal security culture at all times. This includes, but is not limited to, protecting the confidentiality of callers (in part by not disclosing any of their information to entities outside of NLG Rochester), other hotline volunteers/NLG members, as well as any aspect of the organizational structure of the hotline itself. While active protests are occuring, the hotline is manned live. During lull times, it operates as a "warm line" and voicemail messages will be returned within 24 hours. The Hotline number is (585) 299-2977.
